What we do
The Mass Transfer Research Group at UCT Prague is a research team with deep roots in chemical engineering and mass-transfer science, combined with practical work in thermal diagnostics, special chemical systems, and UAV-related development. The group’s broader research base includes gas–liquid process engineering, absorption, distillation, stirred aerated contactors, ejector systems, and experimental methods.
Relevant expertise for UAV and defence-related applications
1. Thermal diagnostics and infrared interpretation
We develop methodologies for interpreting thermograms from both bolometric and cooled cameras, including measurement in difficult optical environments such as vapours, gases, fog, filters, and partially reflective surfaces. We also work on thermal characterization of UAVs and auxiliary equipment, operational traces, and defect localization.
2. Special chemical and process capabilities
Design of semi-pilot production lines for special and sensitive chemicals, preparation of sample batches, and development of separation technologies for liquid mixtures, including distillation and extraction. The group also works on pyro- and hydrometallurgical routes for metal recovery from waste streams such as batteries, electronics, sludges, machining waste, and alloys.
3. Pyrotechnic formulations and testing
Development and production of pyrotechnic formulations, including illuminating, smoke, and signalling compositions, together with testing of spectra, heat output, smoke generation, propellant charges, and delay mechanisms.
4. UAV development support
We have experience in operating fixed-wing UAVs, including remote data and imagery transmission, sensor integration, and autopilot configuration. We also carry out simulations of structural loads and aerodynamics.
